How to Apply for College
2 min read
Ready to go back to school? Congratulations! You’re taking a big step toward your personal and professional goals.
The next task on your to-do list is applying for a program. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the process, we’re here to help you through it. Review the steps below (or download our application checklist) to get started.
Step 1: Select your school and program
The first thing you need to do is pick a program to enroll in. Depending on your goals, you may consider a variety of degree or certificate options. Click here to learn more about choosing a program that matches your career goals.
Step 2: Find your admissions requirements
Each school has its own admissions requirements. The easiest way to get details about what your chosen school requires is to click “Get Started” on a program page. Submit your information and a school representative will reach out to help with your application.
Schools often ask for things like official transcripts, SAT scores, or letters of recommendation. There may be additional requirements for the specific program you’re applying to. If you’re transferring from another college, the school will use your transcripts to confirm which credits will carry over.
Most associate or bachelor’s degree programs require that you have a high school diploma. Master’s degree programs require a completed bachelor’s degree.
International students may need to submit different documents. You can confirm them with a school representative or through the school’s website.
Step 3: Confirm your application due date
Your school's admissions representative will let you know when your application is due. Some schools have specific due dates, others accept applications on an ongoing basis. Either way, it’s important to start your application as soon as possible so you can sign up for upcoming classes.
Step 4: Fill out your application
It's fastest to submit your application online, but many schools also offer paper versions. However you submit your application, prepare for it to take up to a few hours to complete. You should also account for time to gather your required documents. (It may take a few weeks to receive school transcripts or letters of recommendation.)
Step 5: Review and submit
Once your documents are ready and your application is complete, it’s time to submit. If your school has an application fee, you’ll pay it at this time.
Finishing your application is one of the biggest steps in your education journey. Take a moment to celebrate when it's done! If you have any questions along the way, our Support team is here to help.
